September 3, 2020, the Institute of Dryland Farming organized a meeting at Qiji Village in west of Zaoqiang County for technical training on maize late management and wheat sowing preparation. More than 50 people participated in the training including technicians of Zaoqiang Agricultural Bureau, managers of demonstration bases and farmer representatives.
At the meeting, experts from the institute explained the causes for common maize diseases under the current weather conditions, the symptoms and control measures; introduced the drought tolerant new wheat variety Hengguan 35; and told the methods to increase wheat yield with low input and simplified management by making good use of the photothermal resources and coping with the water deficiency.
Relevant reading references were also given to the participants to help better understanding and adoption.
This training meeting is held at the key period before maize harvest and wheat sowing and will provide good guidance for wheat and maize growers.
